Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur, was established in 1960. On June 26, 2002, the Government of India granted the institute deemed to be university status (under the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 (3 of 1956)).

Vision

VNIT Nagpur was previously known as Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE) and was set up in 1960. It was one of the 12 institutes chosen by the MHRD, Government of India for the BRICS Network University on behalf of India

VNIT Nagpur is well-known for imparting quality education and is ranked fifth among all NITs. According to the Times Engineering Survey, it is also one of the top ten engineering institutes in the world and the 18th best engineering college in India, according to Outlook magazine
